The Ankara-Niğde Motorway Project is part of the Trans-European North-South Motorway (TEM) Project, a sub-regional cooperation project established in 1977 with the technical and administrative support of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. The TEM project including the Ankara-Niğde Motorway begins in Edirne and reaches Adana and Gaziantep, passing through İstanbul and then Bolu, Ankara and Pozantı, and ends in Şanlıurfa also including the Şanlıurfa-Habur section planned to be constructed in the future.
The Ankara-Niğde Motorway completes the missing link of the Southern Türkiye TEM network, being one of the important parts of the TEM.
With the construction and commissioning of the Ankara-Niğde section, an uninterrupted Europe-Middle East transport link has been provided through Turkey as a bridge.
The main route of the Ankara-Niğde Motorway is 275 km and its total length is 351 km, including the access roads. The first 30 km of the main road beginning from Ankara province is designed as a 2x4 lane motorway and its remaining Km’s are designed as a 2x3 lane motorway. There are 5 Viaducts (3566 m in total), 35 Interchange Bridges, 15 Main Road Bridges, 74 Overpass Bridges, 122 Underpasses, 688 Box Culverts, 16 IntersectionsInterchanges, 14 Toll Stations, 1 Main Control Center, 2 Operation and Maintenance Centers, 5 Maintenance Centers, 12 Service Areas, and 8 Parking Areas.
The Motorway crosses Ankara, Aksaray, Konya, Kırşehir, Nevşehir and Niğde provinces, all situated in the Central Anatolia Region. The Ankara-Niğde Motorway consists of the three sections given below:
The Ankara-Niğde Motorway Project was awarded to ERG Otoyol Yatırım ve İşletme A.Ş. as a result of the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) tender initiated by the General Directorate of Highways (KGM) and the company became the Appointed Company for the construction and operation concessions of the Project in April 2017. The construction begun in 2018. Sections 1 and 3 of the Ankara-Niğde Motorway were opened to traffic by September 5th, 2020. Section 2 and the Kırşehir access road were opened to traffic by December 17th, 2020.
The Project begins from Hacılar neighborhood of Gölbaşı district of Ankara province located about 2 km south of the Ankara Ring Road (E90) and ends 15 km north-east of the of Niğde city center. Here, it is linked to the Niğde South Motorway (O21) and the Kayseri-Niğde State Road (D805). The motorway crosses Ankara, Konya, Kırşehir, Aksaray, Nevşehir and Niğde provinces, all situated in the Central Anatolia Region, along the route.
